Gatik's $200M says the freight robots finally brought receipts
The round matters because the autonomy pitch now comes with live routes, not just mood boards.
Gatik just announced a $200 million Series D, and the most interesting part is not simply that Qatar Investment Authority and Koch Disruptive Technologies wrote the checks. It is that Gatik appears to have graduated from the oldest autonomous vehicle genre, the very expensive promise, into the more persuasive one, the boring commercial route that already exists.
In June, Gatik and PepsiCo announced a multi-year agreement to deploy autonomous freight in North America. On Gatik's current homepage, the company goes a step further and declares, "Everything below is live," then shows trip data refreshed every three hours. That is an unusually aggressive form of startup receipt. Most autonomy companies still prefer the cinematic teaser. Gatik is publishing the spreadsheet with tires.
TechCrunch reports this is Gatik's largest round so far, arriving right after the PepsiCo deal and led by QIA and KDT. The company says demand is accelerating across Fortune 50 retail, grocery, and CPG supply chains. Translation: the money is not for another concept video. It is for scaling the unglamorous middle mile, the part of freight that actually pays bills and ruins slide decks.
If you squint, this is what late-stage autonomy money wants now: not just a moonshot, but a route schedule. The robot truck thesis has spent years auditioning as science fiction. Gatik's latest round suggests investors will now settle, happily, for a truck that shows up on time.
