Clay just priced go to market software like a frontier model

The $115M Series D says AI sales tooling is now being valued like core infrastructure, not a nice-to-have sequence machine.

Clay just raised a $115 million Series D at a $7.1 billion valuation, with Sequoia leading and the usual later-stage congregation showing up in neat rows behind it. The company says revenue grew 4x in 2025, and that more than 17,000 customers now use the product, including 80 percent of the Forbes AI 50. That is less a fundraising update than a market declaration.

What the sheets say, darling reader, is that investors are no longer pricing Clay like a useful SaaS layer for outbound teams. They are pricing it like a control plane for revenue operations in the AI era. There is a difference. A workflow tool gets judged on seat expansion and churn math. An infrastructure story gets judged on whether entire go to market motions start to depend on it. Clay is plainly campaigning for the second category.

The participation list matters too: Sequoia, StepStone, a16z, Meritech, DST, CapitalG, BoxGroup, Boldstart, Bloomberg Beta, Evolution. That is a cap table built to tell future buyers and future recruits that consensus has already been manufactured for them. Efficient, if slightly unsubtle.

The funnier subtext is that the company sits at the intersection of three investor obsessions at once: AI, growth efficiency, and the fantasy that every business process can become a compounding data moat if you wrap enough orchestration around it. If you squint, this round values Clay as part data layer, part agent platform, part therapy for CROs who would like their pipeline to behave like software.

And yes, a $7.1 billion price for software that helps sales teams find and work accounts sounds rich. Then again, in 2026, the market has decided that if your product touches AI budgets and revenue budgets simultaneously, ordinary multiples are for other people.
