Ando's $20 million case against Slack as middle manager

If agents are becoming coworkers, the chat room wants cap table support and fewer human relays.

Ando came out of stealth with a pitch that is almost rude in its clarity: if AI agents are doing real work, why are they still being smuggled into the office through Slack integrations like contraband? The company told TechCrunch it has raised $20 million in pre-seed and seed funding from Accel, Index Ventures, and Emergence to build a team messaging platform where agents are not apps, but participants.

That distinction is the whole wager. Founder Sara Du says current workplace chat turns humans into what she calls "meat proxies", ferrying context between models and coworkers because the system was designed for people first, bots second, and governance as an afterthought. Ando wants the opposite. Agents get identities, inboxes, access to channels, and permission to notice that two parts of the company are solving the same problem badly in parallel. In other words, it wants to fund the group chat as operating system, not just notification sewer.

The money is small by late 2026 standards, but not by the standards of enterprise coordination software with delusions of replacing Slack. The fun subtext is who wrote the checks. Accel and Index are not backing a cute wrapper. They are backing the possibility that AI-native companies may choose a fresh communications layer instead of waiting for incumbents to bolt agent behavior onto legacy chat furniture.

Ando says it already serves customers in software, finance, and real estate across 15 countries, though the teams are still small. That matters. This is not yet a mass migration. It is a bet that once agents become colleagues rather than tools, the org chart leaks into the interface. Slack built the office chat room. Ando is pitching the office where the robots are allowed to interrupt.
